My mom always said. She would rather see a sermon than hear one.She loved to quote poetry from the 18 and 1900s. Her favorite was ” In the morning by Paul Lawrence Dunbar. She was such an inspiring women. She loved to garden. She sewed and made beautiful hats. She always told us about her history. She said her grandmother was a goose girl. She left slavery when she was a girl. My mother loved to talk about the deep South and how she walked ten miles to go to school. She always said to me a kind man could lead her anywhere. That we didn’t know all the stanzas to hymns. That we needed to know the complete Black national anthem. Now that was a tall order.I liked the things mom said.
